Let only Muslims answer this one so that we all know their real opinion please?

Salamu alaikum. I am confused and worried because I read some radical statements made by an extremist group and I need Muslims’ opinion about it:

The Mujahedeen Shura Council, an umbrella organization of Sunni Arab extremist groups that includes al-Qaida in Iraq, issued a statement on a Web forum about the pope’s remarks last week on Islam. “You infidels and despotic, we will continue our jihad and never stop until God avails us to chop your necks and raise the fluttering banner of monotheism when God’s rule is established governing all people and nations,” the statement said.

The group added: “We will break up the cross, spill the liquor and impose head tax, then the only thing acceptable is a conversion (to Islam) or (killed by) the sword.”

Do you agree with this? I understood Islam said that there is no compulsion in religion.

BTW I’m not Muslim, but I want to promote understanding

It has become quite hard, if not impossible to have a decent civilized conversation about Islam with all these ignorant bigots round. Somebody told them Moslems are at the root of evil in the world and they have taken the statement for gospel. I have stopped to respond to questions only intended to promote anti-moslem hate, questions coming from persons who have been brainwashed by the media into brainless zombies, incapable of free independent thinking. It’s a pity that the Pope, the highest authority in Christiandom, has been helping fuel hatred, bigotry and prejudice, instead of helping maintain and strengthen the bridges of understanding and love already established by JP II. To address your question (since you sound like a real lady) , actually the only party benefitting from this atmosphere of anti-moslem hate is radical islamism. The Pope’s comments and the concomittant popular ill-feeling harboured by people in the West in general seem to confirm, according to Bin Laden and Co., the allegation that the West has declared an open war against Islam and that Moslems are therefore called upon to fight back. I am sure they won’t have problems recruiting more soldiers to die for the cause. The Moslem world is undergoing a process of deep radicalization nowadays, thanks to the stupidity, ignorance and short-sightedness of the rulers of the Western world. But I don’t think the process is irrevocable.
Moslems who are being attracted to radicalism might be won over if an effort is made to create an atmosphere of love, mutual respect and understanding.
